HRH IGWE RALPH EKPEH AT FRANCIS OWOH AND ENUGWU-UKWU CONVENTION 2018

The ECDU New York Branch hosted the convention on the next day, on the 26th.  The convention was held to gather members of the Enugwu-Ukwu community in America together to celebrate the town of Enugwu-Ukwu and raise funds towards the further development and improvement of infrastructure in the Enugwu-Ukwu area with special emphasis on important community staples like hospitals and schools.  As with most Nigerian gatherings, the event was made authentic by the ceremonial breaking and sharing of the kola nut.  The convention, attended by over 400 guests, included live entertainment, dancing, food, and even a masquerade.

The New York Branch of the ECDU has been gathering the people of Enugwu-Ukwu area in America and rallying the community for 18 years.  Continuing later in the year, the organization plans on hosting their annual Christmas party as well as an event to celebrate Onwa Asato, which typically marks the New Yam Festival which typically marks the beginning of seasonal harvests.

More On Francis Owoh

Chief Owoh received a B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Engineering and later a doctorate in Safety engineering.  He spent 3 years working with NYC Department of Environmental Protection before opening an environmental engineering and safety consultancy firm in 1991, the Safety Environmental Inc. which continues to work with the NYC DEP to serve the people of New York.  He is the current President of the ECDU. It is worth noting that Chief Owoh served on New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s transition committee.
