Suprise of a Wedding gift

traveled from far and wide, including the USA and various villages.  The mountain of wedding presents for the bride and groom appeared to indicate a great deal of generosity and plenty of well-wishes towards their marriage...until one of the presents revealed a shocking surprise.
It was the day after the wedding that the couple settled down to open their wedding presents with pleasure.  They came upon an envelope which usually indicates a card containing money.  However, this was a rather large envelope which raised their expectations higher than usual.  They opened it with great expectations to find inside no money, just a snake.  When the snake wiggled out, poised to strike, it was quickly killed after being chased and outmaneuvered by relatives of the newly wed.  The bride was obviously jolted and scared but was persuaded to remain calm and continue opening the gifts while everyone wondered who would do such a thing.

Could it be the fury of a woman scorned, or simply the handwork of enemies who pretended to be friends?  The bridegroom is a born again Christian and very successful young businessman in Aba.   The bride is the daughter of a titled chief.

Their wedding attracted the presence of various media practitioners, including Igbobasics.com from USA and DON & DIVA from Abuja.  If the intention of the snake giver was to strike dead the newly wed, the snake giver failed.
This incident underscores the Igbo saying “ama ndi a-na eze” (You don't know who to avoid).   In America, this would be likened to the part of Sleeping Beauty where the evil witch, Maleficent, goes uninvited to the princess' christening ceremony to deliver a curse instead of a blessing.  In the end, the curse is overpowered by true love, and Maleficent dies a typical Disney death while Sleeping Beauty lives happily ever after with her prince.
May the newlyweds live happily ever after, and whoever brought or gave a snake as a wedding gift live to receive a seven headed snake.
